Is Easter Pagan? Understanding the History and Meaning Behind the Celebration

Every year around springtime, we see Easter baskets, egg hunts, bunnies, and kiddos in their fresh new Easter fits. 🐣🐰👗🕺🏾

Some celebrate the day, and some don’t—each for their own reasons and beliefs. But one of the most common questions I hear is:

“What do the bunny, the egg, and Easter have to do with each other?”

“Why does the month switch between March and April?”

Well, here’s a little background on this special day, researched and shared by my friend Jay… 👇🏾

The Christian Meaning of Easter: The Resurrection of Jesus

At the heart of Easter is a deeply sacred event: the resurrection of Jesus Christ, as told in the New Testament. Christians believe that Jesus was crucified, died, and rose again on the third day defeating death and offering the promise of eternal life.

This moment is considered the foundation of the Christian faith, symbolizing hope, victory, and spiritual rebirth.

📖 Easter is not about eggs or bunnies, it’s about new life in Christ.

The timing of Easter is based on the lunar calendar: it falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox. This formula was established by the Council of Nicaea in 325 CE (Encyclopedia Britannica).

Pre-Christian Roots: The Spring Equinox and Fertility Festivals

Long before the resurrection was celebrated, ancient cultures held springtime festivals to mark the end of winter and the rebirth of nature. These were often associated with fertility, planting, and new life.

One such tradition comes from the Anglo-Saxon goddess Ēostre (or Ostara)—a goddess of dawn, fertility, and renewal. Her festival occurred during the spring equinox, and her symbols included rabbits (fertility) and eggs (new life) (The Venerable Bede, De Natura Rerum).

🎨 These symbols were later adopted by Western cultures and became common in Easter festivities.

Why the Mix? Blending Pagan Traditions with Christian Meaning

As Christianity spread across Europe, early Christian leaders often adopted and repurposed existing cultural festivals to help converts transition into the faith.

Rather than eliminate local customs, they infused them with new meaning. So, the festival honoring a spring goddess gradually became the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection, while still incorporating symbols like eggs, rabbits, and flowers (History.com, “History of Easter”).

📌 The name “Easter” itself may come from the goddess Ēostre, though in many other languages the word for Easter (like Pascha in Greek and Latin) connects directly to Passover (Merriam-Webster Dictionary).

So… Is Easter Pagan?

✅ The resurrection of Jesus is not pagan—it is the cornerstone of Christian faith.
✅ Some traditions and symbols associated with Easter do have pagan roots.

But recognizing that doesn’t take away from the spiritual power of Easter. Instead, it reminds us that God can take what already exists and give it new meaning.

Final Reflection

For me, Easter is more than a tradition—it’s a testimony. A moment to reflect on God’s goodnessChrist’s sacrifice, and the beauty of spiritual renewal.

You can enjoy the baskets and egg hunts if you choose, but don’t lose sight of the real message: Jesus rose. He lives. And because of that, we can rise too.

No matter how others define Easter, you get to define what it means for you.

Stay rooted, stay curious, and as always… stand in your truth. 💛✝️🌿

🌤️When the Reset Doesn’t Look Like You Imagined

This week wasn’t what I thought it would be, as it wasn’t as productive as I would have liked it to have been.  I didn’t feel extra motivated and neither did I have any big breakthroughs. It was quiet. It was heavy. It was emotional. It was reflective. And honestly it was necessary.

Sometimes the reset doesn’t look like wellness influencers or goal-setting guides say it will. Sometimes, it looks like being a couch potato for a day. Eating only when your body insists. Resting because everything else feels like too much. And letting your spirit breathe without forcing it to be “okay.”

That’s where I’ve been lately, letting life be what it is while still choosing gratefulness.

Even though I wasn’t physically feeling the best, and my appetite disappeared, I still said, “thank you, Lord” daily. Not because everything felt good, but because I’m still here. I’m still standing and still pressing forward through this thing we call life.

You don’t have to pretend you’re full of energy when you’re not.
You don’t have to post when your spirit is quiet.
You don’t have to be “on” to still be anchored.

This is just a gentle reminder: Whatever your reset looks like, it counts.
Let grace meet you right where you are today.
And when you’re ready to move again—even if it’s just a little—know that you are not alone.

It Doesn’t Have To Be Done In A Day!!!

Some days I wake up and think, “Today, I’m getting everything done.” And somewhere between the first load of laundry and all other things life, I’m reminded that not everything is meant to be done in a day.

I’ve spent years mastering multitasking. Holding it all together was a survival skill—especially as a woman, a caregiver, a homemaker, and a lover of life. A lot of it was from being OCD and a deep desire to keep things in order. As life continues to evolve, I’m learning to manage that need and not allow it to manage me.  This could also be attributed to the fact that I’m getting older and have more physical limitations as well as learning that peace doesn’t live in perfection.

It’s okay if the to-do list rolls into tomorrow. It’s okay if everything isn’t fully organized at the end of the day, what matters most is:

  • Did I breathe deeply and count my blessings?
  • Did I pour love into someone today?
  • Did I make space for joy, not just productivity?

We were never created to do it all, but to do what matters most, with intention.

So if you feel fulfilled in your soul, that’s enough.  That’s life. That’s grace. That’s growth.

Here’s to letting go a little more, embracing the mess in the beauty, and calling it a beautiful start to a beautiful weekend. 💛

Managing the Cycles of Life, Not Fighting Them

The cycles of life… they’re never-ending, and they never really slow down. There’s always something to do or somewhere to be. One moment I’m handling business or taking care of domestic duties, and the next, I’m giving myself permission to relax, reflect, and regroup.

I’m not in control of every twist and turn in my life and that’s okay. To stay stress-free, I’ve learned to move with the rhythm of life, recognizing when it’s time to push and when it’s time to pause.

Common Life Stressors

(Source: American Psychological Association – Stress in AmericaMayo Clinic – Stress Symptoms)

  • Major life transitions (grief, divorce, relocation, new jobs)
  • Financial pressures and budgeting challenges
  • Health concerns (personal or loved ones’)
  • Overcommitment or lack of rest
  • Caregiving responsibilities
  • Relationship or family tension
  • Workplace stress or job dissatisfaction
  • Unspoken expectations and the pressure to “do it all”

Stress doesn’t always come from chaos, it can come from carrying too much in silence.

Practical Ways to Counter Common Life Stressors

(Source: Mayo ClinicAmerican Psychological AssociationMental Health America)

  • Major Life Transitions: Build a support system. Talk to a trusted friend, therapist, or support group. Journaling or creating small routines can help ground you during major change. (Mayo Clinic – Coping with Grief)
  • Financial Pressures: Create a realistic budget. Use free budgeting tools and seek financial counseling if needed. (Mental Health America – Finances & Mental Health)
  • Health Concerns: Stay informed, not overwhelmed. Partner with your healthcare provider, explore lifestyle changes, and celebrate small wins. (APA – Stress and Health)
  • Overcommitment or Lack of Rest: Set boundaries and say “no” when needed. Time-block your day with non-negotiable rest periods. (APA – Time Management Tips)
  • Caregiving Responsibilities: Take respite breaks and ask for help. Look into local respite care or community resources. (Mayo Clinic – Caregiver Stress)
  • Relationship or Family Tension: Prioritize open, respectful communication. Consider counseling or journaling to release emotion. (Mental Health America – Healthy Relationships)
  • Workplace Stress: Step outside, take short walks, or do a 2-minute breathing exercise. Talk to HR when needed. (APA – Work, Stress and Health)
  • Unspoken Expectations: Challenge perfectionism. Replace “I have to” with “I choose to.” Focus on progress, not perfection. (APA – Perfectionism and Mental Health)

Common Effects of Stress on the Body

(Source: Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic)

  • Headaches & fatigue – Tension headaches and exhaustion are common.
  • Digestive issues – Nausea, acid reflux, and disrupted gut health.
  • Increased blood pressure & heart rate – The fight-or-flight response elevates both.
  • Muscle tension & chronic pain – Especially in the shoulders, neck, and back.
  • Weakened immune system – Prolonged stress lowers your resistance.
  • Sleep disruptions – Can cause insomnia or excessive sleep.
  • Mood changes – Irritability, sadness, anxiety, or emotional exhaustion.

The Good News: Small Actions Make a Big Difference

  • Step outside for fresh air.
  • Dance to your favorite playlist.
  • Enjoy a guilt-free moment of stillness.
  • Laugh, cook, clean, cry, write—whatever brings release.

Life isn’t meant to be perfect—it’s meant to be lived. Whether you’re in full-on grind mode or chilling in your peace zone with a homemade cocktail in one hand and clarity in the other—remember: you’re allowed to reset. You’re allowed to rest. And you’re allowed to flow.

“Because that’s what life is—a cycle. And the more you lean in, the better you ride it.”💛

Where Love Gathers – The Joy of Family, Friends, and Full Hearts

I come from a big family, I have a big family, and I married into a big family. Over the years, I’ve learned that there’s nothing more fulfilling than spending quality time with the people who know you, love you, and laugh with you.

Some of my best memories are filled with good food, games, music, dancing, movies, laughs, and lots of picture taking😁😁😁 It’s healing ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹 in places that medication can’t touch.  It doesn’t have to be a special occasion to create new and warmhearted memories.

By the way…if you’re not invited to someone else’s celebration, have your own❣️Life is too short to wait for an invitation.

I love cooking for my family and friends, and they love my cooking, more often than not 😆😆😆.  Whether it’s a pot of something homemade, grilling in the backyard, or chilling near the fire pit, it’s always a good time.

My house is a home, a space where every room radiates peace.  A home away from home for many and a place where love and laughter reside.

Be sure to take a minute to reflect on or doing something that brings you joy today (nothing illegal, 🤦🏽‍♀️ immoral 🤦🏽‍♀️ or unsafe 🤦🏽‍♀️).

Whether it’s a party of twenty or a cozy night with just you, fill the space with love, and memories worth keeping. At the end of the day, it’s about how full your heart feels when it’s all said and done. 💛

Grateful for the To-Do List

If There Was Nothing To Do… What Would I Be Doing?

Sometimes the days all seem to run together. The weeks fly by, and I’m still trying to figure out if today is Sunday or Wednesday. A full schedule means there’s still purpose, still motion, still LIFE.

Whenever I take a break and look over my forever-growing to-do list, sometimes I feel a bit overwhelmed. But what a blessing it is to not only have something to do, but to be physically able to do it. It doesn’t matter if it’s work, family, home, business, healing, planning, dreaming, or just catching up, I believe it is all part of my divine purpose.

If there was nothing to do, what would I be doing? Probably nothing, and doing nothing is definitely not food for the soul.

If you can relate, today let’s look at our to-do list a little differently.  As it is a reminder that there are things worth waking up for, people worth showing up for, and dreams worth working toward each day.

Rest is necessary and refreshing. But in the moments of action, let’s be grateful for the responsibilities that shape us, stretch us, and keep us connected to purpose.

Your to-do list is proof that you’re still in the game.  That’s something to celebrate.

🕊️ Start Fresh – Body, Mind & Spirit 🕊️

Good health isn’t just about test results, physical fitness, or what you eat—it’s about alignment. Mind, body, and spirit must all be considered when walking toward wholeness.

Some mornings begin at sunrise. Others start after a long night of restlessness and discomfort. No matter the hour, how you begin your day matters.

For me, it starts with morning meditation and reflection. Before the demands of the day begin to pull me in every direction, I pause. I breathe. I center my thoughts on clarity and purpose, even when my body is calling out in discomfort. Because peace isn’t a place—it’s a presence within me. And when I have that peace, I can carry it into every room of my house and every space I enter.

🧠 Mind: Feed it with reflection, gratitude, and truth. Guard it from chaos and clutter.
💪🏾 Body: Listen to it. Honor its signals. Support it naturally when possible, and rest when needed.
💛 Spirit: Connect with the source that gives you strength. When the spirit is well, it uplifts the rest.

Even when pain interrupts your rest, you can reset with intention. Even when you’re not where you want to be physically, you can choose peace mentally and spiritually.

Today, take a moment to check in with yourself. Not the to-do list. Not the outside noise. Just you. Because healing—true healing—starts from the inside out.

Spring Into Action – Life, Growth & Moving Forward

Life is Like Spring – Time to Bloom & Take Action

Spring is officially here, and just like that, time keeps moving forward. Doesn’t it feel like we just welcomed the new year? Now, the first quarter of the year is nearly over, and before we know it, we’ll be talking about the holidays again. Time waits for no one.

Just like the changing of the seasons, life keeps moving, shifting, and evolving. The question is—are we moving with it? Are we growing, blooming, and stepping into the opportunities around us, or are we waiting for the “perfect time” that may never come?

Are You Where You Thought You’d Be?

Take a moment and reflect—are you where you thought you’d be yesterday, last week, or even at the beginning of the year? If so, celebrate that! 🎉 Keep pushing forward. If not, ask yourself:

🔹 What do I need to change?
🔹 What steps can I take today to get back on track?
🔹 Am I making intentional progress, or just letting time pass me by?

Self-Assessments Keep Us Growing

Growth doesn’t just happen by chance. It takes self-awareness, effort, and a willingness to adapt. Life doesn’t always go as planned, but regular self-checks help us stay aligned with our goals.

🌱 Spring into action—Don’t wait for “someday.” Start now. 🌱 Set small goals—Progress is progress, no matter how small. 🌱 Adjust when necessary—Life shifts, and so should we.

Work With the Expectation of Being

Tomorrow isn’t promised, but we can’t live in fear of the unknown. The best way to honor life is to live it with intention. Move forward with the expectation of being—being present, being better, being in alignment with your purpose.

When to Seek Help & Support

Sometimes, no matter how much effort we put in, things just aren’t working. If you’ve done everything you know to do and still feel stuck, it’s time to seek assistance.

🔹 Whether it’s mentorship, counseling, coaching, or simply reaching out for advice—don’t be afraid to ask for help.Growth isn’t just about personal effort, it’s also about community and connection.

Final Thought: Spring Forward With Purpose

Spring represents renewal, growth, and new beginnings. Let it serve as a reminder that we, too, have the ability to refresh, reset, and rise.

💡 Challenge for Today: What is ONE action you can take right now to “Spring into Action” in your life? Drop a 🌸in the comments and let’s commit to blooming together!

Light and Darkness Don’t Mix

Some lessons in life don’t need to be taught with words—sometimes, they reveal themselves through experiences. Over the last few days, I have watched this unfold in real time. Posts that I created—messages rooted in truth, faith, and personal experience—were blocked, flagged, and met with resistance. Not because they violated any community guidelines, not because they spread misinformation or harm, but simply because they mentioned God.

Out of over 1,700 views in 48 hours, a small handful of reports were enough to trigger restrictions, forcing me to either appeal, edit, or let it be. But here’s the truth: I don’t need to fight a battle that isn’t mine. And I certainly won’t start editing my truth to fit into someone else’s comfort zone.

The Truth About Light and Darkness

This experience only reminded me of something I’ve always known: Light and darkness don’t mix. When truth is spoken, when light shines in dark spaces, it makes some people uncomfortable. It exposes things that they would rather keep hidden. And for some, the mere mention of faith is enough to provoke a reaction—not because they’re being harmed, but because they feel convicted in a way they can’t fully explain.

What I’ve Learned From This

1️⃣ Some people would rather silence truth than confront it. It’s easier for some to hit a “report” button than to simply scroll past something they don’t agree with. But their discomfort does not mean my message was wrong—it means it hit a nerve. And sometimes, that’s exactly what truth is meant to do.

2️⃣ Being asked to separate faith from everyday life is unrealistic. Someone suggested that I create or join a “religious group” to share my posts—as if faith and spirituality are topics that belong in a separate, hidden corner. But faith is not a category; it is a way of living. It shapes decisions, perspectives, and interactions. It cannot be boxed in just because it makes some people uneasy.

3️⃣ If my words weren’t powerful, they wouldn’t be opposed. If what I shared didn’t matter, if it didn’t carry weight, it wouldn’t have been flagged at all. Opposition only comes when something is reaching people—and that is confirmation that I’m walking in purpose.

4️⃣ The battle is not mine. I don’t have to fight every system, appeal every block, or convince anyone of my right to speak. I will continue posting, continue shining, and if they feel the need to keep blocking my words, that’s on them. God’s got me. And when God is the one opening doors, no human hand can shut them.

A Final Word: Keep Walking in Light

To those who have ever felt silenced, blocked, or met with resistance for standing in their truth, let this be your reminder: The enemy doesn’t attack what isn’t a threat. If you are facing opposition, it means you are shining brightly in a place that wasn’t prepared for your light. Keep shining anyway. Keep walking in faith, in purpose, and in truth.

Because at the end of the day, light and darkness don’t mix—and that’s exactly why the light always wins.

The Posts Will Reach All God Intended Them to Reach

In a world where voices are amplified across digital platforms, it is both surprising and unsettling when messages of faith and personal reflection are met with resistance. Recently, two of my posts were reported and blocked—not because they were offensive, but because they mentioned God. Out of over 1,700 views in just 48 hours, a small number of complaints triggered a restriction. It made me pause and reflect: What is it about faith-based discussions that make some people so uncomfortable? And why do references to God seem to provoke pushback in ways that other topics do not?

After taking time to sit with this, I realized that this moment was an opportunity—not a setback. It opened the door to a much deeper conversation about the differences between religion, being religious, and spirituality.

Religion, Being Religious, and Spirituality: What’s the Difference?

  • Religion is a structured system of beliefs, practices, and moral codes. It often includes sacred texts, places of worship, and traditions passed down through generations. Religion provides guidance, but it is not the only path to faith.
  • Being religious means actively practicing a religion—following its doctrines, participating in rituals, and committing to its teachings. A person can be religious and deeply spiritual, but some may follow religious customs without a personal spiritual connection.
  • Spirituality is deeply personal. It transcends organized religion and focuses on an individual’s direct connection with God or a higher power. It is about seeking truth, growth, and purpose beyond rituals and traditions.

For me, I identify more with spirituality than religious practices. My posts are not about pushing doctrine but sharing my lived experiences—how my faith shapes my perspectives and choices. Yet, for some, even the mention of God is enough to cause discomfort, leading them to report and attempt to silence it.

Why Faith-Based Discussions Are Often Misunderstood

It is interesting how some see any reference to God as an attempt to impose beliefs on others. Yet, faith—whether through religion or spirituality—is not about forcing ideas. It is about walking in truth and sharing experiences authentically.

Social media algorithms often flag content based on reports rather than true violations of community standards. If enough people disagree with a perspective, it can be silenced—even if that perspective is positive, encouraging, or deeply personal. The irony is that these same platforms allow divisive, harmful, and even hateful content to spread without interference.

So, what does this tell me? That opposition often arises when something is impactful. If a message is stirring hearts, pushing people to think, or resonating on a deep level, there will always be resistance. And that’s okay.

Faith Can’t Be Blocked

When my posts were reported, I had a choice. I could edit them to fit an algorithm’s comfort zone, or I could stand firm in what I wrote. I chose the latter because my truth is not up for negotiation.

More importantly, I rest in the fact that the posts will reach all God intended them to reach. A blocked post does not mean a silenced message. It simply means that those meant to receive it will still find it—through another post, a conversation, or an unexpected encounter. Faith is not contained within a platform’s guidelines. It is lived, breathed, and carried in our everyday interactions.

A Final Reflection

If there is one lesson to take from this, it is this: Never let opposition cause you to shrink your faith. Whether you are religious, spiritual, or somewhere in between, your experiences are valid. Your journey with God is yours alone, and no report, restriction, or digital barrier can take that away.

So, to those who resonate with my words—keep standing in your truth. Keep walking in faith. Keep sharing what is placed on your heart. Because even when voices try to silence it, God’s message will always find its way to those who are meant to receive it.

And that, my friends, is something that no report button can ever change.
